Find out how hyperthermia and smart nano-chemotherapy are opening new doors for breast cancer patients
May 1st 2026
 12:40 – 13:20
Colloquium (Flux 6)
 Free lunch included
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide, and its treatment carries significant physical, emotional, and psychosocial burdens. For patients who don’t respond sufficiently to chemotherapy, the path to breast-conserving surgery is often blocked — with mastectomy as the result.
This research explores a promising alternative: thermochemotherapy, which combines MR-guided local hyperthermia with targeted nano-chemotherapy to improve treatment outcomes while reducing toxicity. By using electromagnetic fields to heat tumors non-invasively — and MRI to monitor temperature in real time — this approach aims to make breast-conserving surgery accessible to more patients. The work focuses on developing the specialized hardware that makes this possible.
Join us for this lunch lecture, where two PhD researchers from the CARES project will share their work on bringing engineering and oncology together to create more personalized, less invasive cancer treatment — with potential applications beyond breast cancer.
This event is sponsored by C3Te, the TUe Center for Care & Cure Technology Eindhoven.Â

📍 Colloquium (Flux ????)
🍴 Free lunch included
Eir is organizing a lunch lecture featuring two PhD researchers from the Care & Cure domain, who will share how biomedical measurements can be applied for maternal and neonatal healthcare.
Our first presenter, Irene Lensen, will discuss her research on early detection of complications during pregnancy. By combining biomedical signals such as ECG, EHG, EEG, and ultrasound, she investigates the coupling between maternal and fetal cardiovascular systems.
Afterwards, Giulia Palladino will present her work on non-obtrusive monitoring of preterm infants. Using a fiber-optic pressure-sensitive mattress, she studies movement patterns and respiration, as well as the maturation trajectories of preterm infants through vital signs data.
Whether you’re interested in medical engineering, signal processing, or healthcare innovation, this lunch lecture offers a fascinating glimpse into how technology supports care for both mother and child!
On the 18th of November, we will have another Eir Member lunch! Come catch up with fellow Eir members and talk about your current courses.
If you’re not a member (yet), you’re also very welcome, but you will miss out on the member discount (€3 for non-members).
Hungry? Subscribe now and we’ll see you on the 18th!
On the 9th of October, GMM 10 will take place. The GMM will start at 16:30 in Flux 4.251.
The documents will be uploaded as soon as possible. Topics discussed will be financial documents, upcoming board, and plans for upcoming year!
Come catch up with fellow Eir members and talk about your current courses and maybe even about your interest in becoming Eir board?
If you’re not a member (yet), you’re also very welcome, but you will miss out on the member discount. (€3 for non-members)
