DESCRIPTION:On the 14th of Januari\, from 15:00 until 16:00\, the next Care & Cure Science Café will be held! \nC3Te has invited Dr. Irena Zivkovic to talk about “Ultra-High Field MRI – How high can we go?” \nIrena Zivkovic – Integrated Circuits (IC) and Electromagnetics (EM) group of Electrical Engineering.\nMagnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most versatile medical imaging platform that provides superior soft tissue contrast for both body and brain imaging. It has become a favorite tool in the research settings\, especially within neuroscience\, because it can map not only the anatomy but also neuronal activation and function without the use of radiation. Scientists have worked on increasing the sensitivity of MRI\, image contrast and spatial resolution. One obvious way to increase resolution is to increase the spin polarization via increasing the static magnetic field B0 in MRI. However\, a consequence of a larger static magnetic field B0 is a higher Larmor frequency and a shorter wavelength. This increased frequency complicates RF electronics and detector design and therefore the technology developed for lower fields such as 3 Tesla is difficult to adapt and transfer directly to the ultra-high field 7 Tesla. This talk will discuss some of my recent developments of the RF technology that allowed high-resolution high-SNR ultra-high field imaging at 7T. I research atmospheric pressure non-thermal plasmas and how they interact with different targets. The lecture will take place via MS Teams. \nNeways Technologies solves customer challenges in a number of industry domains\, specifically also in medical devices. They make available embedded systems designs to customers\, thereby enabling their customers to deliver great value and innovative solutions to the market. Together with their customers they are striving for serving patients with the best healthcare. \nIn hardware engineering for embedded systems in medical applications several aspects are special compared to hardware engineering in general. There are a number of challenges to be solved besides the tasks that generic domain hardware engineering provides. The spectrum ranges from pure documentary work due to regulatory reasons to functional safety. Due to the Corona situation the Care & Cure Science Café will be in the form of a webinar (participants will receive the MS Teams link on the day of the webinar). \nProstate cancer localization by ultrasound imaging of angiogenesis\nMassimo Mischi\, Biomedical Diagnostics Lab (BM/d) of Signal Processing Systems (SPS) group. \nOne in 7 men is diagnosed with prostate cancer in his lifetime. Yet\, current management of the disease is far from optimal. This can mainly be ascribed to the limits of the available imaging technology\, such that current diagnostics of prostate cancer is still based on systematic biopsies. We have invested more than 10 years of research in the development of novel ultrasound solutions to image cancer angiogenesis and localize prostate cancer. In my talk\, I will present the journey through our technological advances as well as the route towards valorisation and clinical translation of our scientific output.

DESCRIPTION:Eir has gotten the unique opportunity to see an fMRI scanner in action and we would like to invite our members to join us to experience this! This is a great opportunity to learn more about fMRI applications as well as see how research in this field is done. It takes place on the 13th of January in Kempenhaeghe 10:15-12:30. We will take the train from Eindhoven at 9:46 so make sure you’re there on time! We expect to be back around 13:15. We will need a volunteer to go in the scanner\, so please let us know if you are interested (you have to be righthanded\, and you will be participating in research using new fMRI techniques).
